This is the last picture we took of Mimi, CH Cairndale Great Expectations. We owe her much. Not a day goes by that we don't think of her, miss her, and also see her in her daughters.
April 11, 2006.......A Birthday for 4 little Cairn girls, unlike any other birthday we have experienced in our dog breeding past. A day of so much emotion, so much pain, and also so much joy and so much hope. Our much loved Cairn girl, Mimi, died while giving birth to her daughters. Her very vulnerable babies were orphans.

A most awesome King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Ruby, came to the rescue and fed them, cleaned them, kept them warm, and provided for all their needs for seven weeks. We owe such a debt to this wonderful little dog and her human mom, Karen. There aren't enough words to describe the loving and dedication this pair gave so freely and willingly at a time when the babies had such need. Hats off to Ruby. The day we  brought the babies to her, she went outside for a potty break, leaving her four beautiful sons in the nest, and when she came back in, she had a much larger family  Ruby didn't miss a beat, took over  the mothering chores for her greatly expanded family of 8. The babies thrived. Karen gave them names:   Dark Girl, Gray Girl, Sassy Girl and Red Girl--she bottle fed them and rocked them. Karen and Ruby-thanks again for these girls. You gave them everything they needed to become the neat little dogs they are.today.

Little Sassie after her first meal--Num Num!
Babies are 2 hours old and ready to go meet their new mom. The white marks on
their backs remind us
who has been bottle
fed. Ruby won't need these marks, she's a very smart girl.
Ruby retired from her very important role as "MOTHER of the Year" and now resides with her new family. She has a new brother, Rocky, and a new family that dotes on her in her new life as a retired Queen!
Mimi was a Special girl from the beginning..she knew how to help in the garden and she knew how to be the center of all the activity.
Mimi at her first show, from the 6-9 puppy class won sweeps and a goblet..and then as a 12-18 month old girl went out west to the Great Western, won Best in Sweeps and also won the BBE class at the So CA Specialty show.
She always was fun, full of life, and the best pal ever.

Mimi and her brother were also very good citizens and on a trip when they were babies, decided they would furnish their motel room with new carpeting. That was one of Mimi's adventures!

We still miss her each and every day.
